This piece was inspired by the song “Twilight” by composer Herman Beeftink. I play the flute and have bought the sheet music for many of his pieces, so I wanted to create a short “teaser” that captured the peaceful, magical energy of his work.

Planning

The goal was to build a nighttime forest scene that felt like it was pulled straight from a dream. I wanted the camera to feel like a silent observer, following a single firefly through the trees, past drifting mist, and eventually opening up to a waterfall and lake. It was all about capturing that sense of wonder you get when you’re lost in a good piece of music.

I used Cinema 4D’s asset library for the models, and my focus was mainly on the cinematography and atmosphere. I used Redshift Atmosphere to achieve the light fog and atmospheric perception and spent a lot of time tweaking the lighting, so the firefly felt like it was actually illuminating the trees as it drifted by.
